New Pongola mayor outlines plan for municipality

Pongola's newly-elected mayor, Sibusiso Mhlongo, says he wants to lead a corruption-free municipality.

It's one of the main challenges in the troubled northern KZN municipality.
His appointment comes after Winnie Nhlabathi was recalled by the ANC's Provincial Executive Committee in August.

She was arrested for allegedly assaulting a trespasser at her home in February.
Mhlongo says he wants to make sure that all communities receive basic services.
"Our economy is bad, so, our my plan going forward is to try and activate the economy. We will need to add Economic Development Tourism and Environmental Department. We have got water problems."
