New MUT SRC to be inaugurated this weekend

Fee increments for the 2017 academic year will be discussed at the inauguration which is scheduled for Saturday. 

Addressing media in Durban yesterday, the university's Mbali Mkhize said it was procedure for MUT's executive to engage with student leaders on fees issues. 

Mkhize says by including the SRC in matters concerning their financial well-being, the university is promoting a culture of positive engagement with students.

"We have a new SRC so the fee increments will be discussed by executive managements and the SRC. Basically what happens at MUT, the university does not just decide on fees but they engage students right at the outset," she said. 

She added that management remains hopeful that future discussions between the various stakeholders will not yield any fee increments.

Management yesterday said their students are almost done with exams. The university says ongoing engagement with parents have resulted in the institution being largely unaffected by the national 'Fees Must Fall' campaign.
