MUT quietly completes academic programme amid nationwide protests
Management at Durban's Mangosuthu University of Technology says ongoing engagement with parents, has ensured that the institution has remained largely unaffected by the national 'Fees Must Fall' campaign.
Senior director of marketing and communication, Mbali Mkhize, says speaking to parents face-to-face about MUT's financial state of affairs has strengthened the chain of communication and trust among parents, students and management.
She says students at MUT are almost done with exams.
"Parents need to know what the financial state of affairs is for the university and then once executive management gives them that information, we've discovered that parents really understand and we believe that parents also engage their students in terms of what the financial state of MUT is," she said.
Last month, students spoke to Newswatch after Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande announced a fee increment - saying protesting violently for the cause is unfair on other students who have prepared for end of year tests.
