The full council meeting that was due to take place in eThekwini to swear in the municipality's new leadership tomorrow has been postponed.

The City says the decision was made as there were not enough agenda items to convene the meeting.

It says the decision was taken because of last week's postponement of the Executive Committee meeting which opposition party councillors walked out of.

Opposition parties are unhappy.

The DA's Nicole Graham says too much time has been wasted already.

"It is very concerning for us. Having a leadership elected means we can get on with our work, which has been put on hold. No clear reasons have been provided, so it would appear as if it is some kind of ANC political infighting."

The IFP's Thami Ntuli says they are concerned about the period the city has been running without political leadership.

"We understand that the reason behind the axing of the mayors was service delivery. The damage that has has led to the collapse of the two municipalities is continuing."

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal announced earlier this month that all its members serving on EXCO at eThekwini and Msunduzi had been redeployed due to performance.
