Deputy chairperson Thembo Ntuli was speaking to the media after the party's three-day conference wrapped up on Sunday night.

"We are leading an organisation that is led by members irregardless of portfolios that they are in at the moment. We all do things collectively. No one has a task separately from another. I think we are ready and we will continue leading till that time when issues are resolved."

Zandile Gumede, eThekwini's former mayor who stands accused of corruption, was elected chairperson.

Ntuli says the jobs of the ANC employees in the municipality are safe.

"We are in the process of electing the region not a government. The task of the leadership is to work with the deployees of the movement because there is no government election. After this we are just dealing with those who are in the movement."

Meanwhile, the ANC's national spokesperson Pule Mabe says the organisation will make an announcement on the election of members affected by the step-aside guidelines.

"We have got the national working committee who will reflect on all of this. The ANC is not sleeping, it is seeing all of these developments that are happening once it has been reflected because it did say its guidelines on step aside is a working document.

"We must reflect on this developments, come out in the public and communicate one singular message."
