Ndwedwe trying to address taxi industry's concerns: Mayor

Ndwedwe Local Municipality mayor, Nkosinathi Chili says he is trying his best to address taxi owners' complaints about the state of certain roads in the area.

Angry taxi drivers barricaded the R74 between KwaDukuza and Maphumulo with burning tyres and other debris this morning.

Police said that about a hundred people took to the streets earlier.

Among their concerns is the pace at which it is taking authorities to tar certain road.

Chili says protestors were already closing the R74 by 5am this morning.

"They are complaining that there is no progress in tarring the road. The road is tarred for 5km, but the rest is not," he said.

The mayor says he has spoken to the Transport Department about the issue.

He says department officials will accompany him to address the strikers.
