Umgeni Water says since yesterday supply of power has been interrupted from Eskom and eThekwini - meaning their ability to supply water.

This now means residents of Ndwedwe will most likely go into the new year and possibly go through the weekend with no water  Umgeni Water's Shami Harichunder says work is in progress to get to the bottom of the power supply issue.

"I am not in the position to say how long it will take to resolve the problem. But from the basic information given."

"It seems the entire area of Ndwedwe is affected by either lack of water or inadequate water supply. Ndwedwe is a vast area it falls within Ilembe and parts of ethekwini so we are looking at a number of people living in the area."

He says what makes the situation complex is that both eThekwini and Eskom are jointly sources of power supply for Umgeni.

"Problems began on eThewkini's side at 4pm yesterday and Eskom's side last night. It's a combination of both. Eskom supply is direct to Umgeni water and so does eThekwini so that two sources of power supply."
