Ndwedwe station commander killed in drive-by shooting

KwaZulu-Natal police say a local station commander has been shot and killed.
Colonel Jabulani Ndawonde from Ndwedwe Police Station, north of Durban, was gunned down in a drive-by shooting on Monday night.

The police's Thembeka Mbele says it's understood he'd been making his way home and was driving past Bhamshela Taxi Rank when he was ambushed.
"It is alleged that while he was driving past the taxi rank, a vehicle overtook him and the occupants fired several gunshots forwards him and he was declared dead at the scene.

"At the moment, the motive of the killing is unknown - but it will be investigated. There is a case of murder that has been opened at Nsuze police station. The docket will be transferred to the Hawks for further investigation.
