Ndedwe municipality vows transparency in R25m relief
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The flood-hit Ndedwe Municipality has promised
to account for every rand spent on relief efforts.

"This municipality is very good when it comes to finance management," said Mayor of Ndwedwe Sam Mfeka.
"Indeed, I think this is a follow up of the grant we received from the previous financial year, which was of R10 million, which we spent very well, and we'll make sure this time around we also spend this money wisely."
Cooperative Governance Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa allocated over R1.4 billion in relief funds to municipalities severely affected by storms and flooding.
There were 25 municipal recipients in KwaZulu-Natal.

Mfeka says the rural municipality received R25 million, adding that four wards are in desperate need of infrastructure upgrades.
"This R25 million that we have received is a conditional grant and it's going to be allocated to various wards where we'll be doing the construction, the recovering of roads," he said.
"So, definitely we are targeting couple of wards, including wards 9, 3, 8, and 19.
"We'll be spending this grant because on the plan that we designed in 2022. We had mentioned that these roads need to be fixed."
