NCT blaze believed to be responsible for deaths of fish
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
NCT Forestry's appointed an environmental consultant to investigate the deaths of dozens of fish at Mzingazi Canal in Richards Bay.

Community members raised concern about possible contamination after spotting a large number of dead fish in the water.
They have linked the incident to the ongoing fire at NCT Forestry's woodchip mill.
The exporter's Managing Director Danny Knoesen visited the canal on Monday.

He says they have accepted full responsibility for the environmental impact of the blaze.
He says samples have been sent to Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife for testing.
Knoesen says GroundTruth will also collect its own samples.
"They will come in and help us with the testing of water, checking the toxicity of the fish to understand why they died and then guide as as what happened and and what remedial action can be taken and we will share the information of what is uncovered with the community once we have it."
