NCT warns of scams asking for donations amid week-long blaze
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The public is being warned to be on the lookout for scams circulating on social media calling for public donations following the week-long blaze in Richards Bay.
The scam has come about as a fire rages on in Umhlathuze where two woodchip stockpiles caught alight.

Friday marked the seventh day of the massive fire, with firefighters working around the clock to contain it.
The company NCT, which owns the stockpiles, says they have established no such fund.
"Under all these circumstances like crowdfunding start-ups and start claiming that they collecting donations, and we have identified a couple of those, we are just trying to kill them,” NCT's General Manager Danny Knoesen says.
“We are not asking for donations, so it is crazy that people take advantage of these situations."
