NCOP postpones vote on NHI Bill

The National Council of Provinces on Wednesday postponed the debate and vote on the National Health Insurance Bill.

The NCOP was scheduled to consider the contentious bill this afternoon, but a decision was taken to push it back by a week.

If adopted by the NCOP, the bill will be sent to President Cyril Ramaphosa to be signed into law.
Some who are opposed to the bill have warned it's unconstitutional in its current form.
The government has presented the NHI as offering universal health coverage for all South Africans, with one pool of healthcare funding for private and public healthcare providers.
But some business and healthcare providers believe it could have severe consequences for South Africa, the country’s economy, and its quality of healthcare.
