NATU vows action against abuse, violence in schools
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
The National Teachers Union says it will be taking a strong stance against any form of abuse in schools.

The union's Allen Thompson says the physical, verbal and sexual abuse of pupils cannot be condoned at any schools.
"We are very determined to make sure that we embark on the campaign of moral regeneration in our school - making sure that teachers don't abuse learners, don't have a sexual relationship with learners and don't apply corporal punishment because it has been long abolished. Those are our positions that we took at the national teachers' union conference," Thompson said.
Thompson says any members who are accused of misconduct or the ill-treatment of pupils must face the consequences.

"If you come with a stick in your class and you apply any form of corporal punishment to a learner, you are tearing your own qualification and you will be responsible for your dismissal at school," Thompson said.
