National state of disaster extended to February
Updated | By Eva Chipa
Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on Friday extended the national state of disaster.

It has been extended to 15 February.
Friday marks 659 days since the state of disaster was first implemented in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The extension takes into account the need to continue augmenting the existing legislation and contingency arrangements undertaken by organs of state and all other role players to mitigate against the impact of the disaster on lives and livelihoods,” says the department’s Lungi Mtshali.
The latest extension comes amid calls from certain quarters, including by the DA, on government to allow the national state of disaster to lapse instead of renewing it for a further month.
