KZN has reached peak of fourth wave, says Phaahla
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Health Minister Joe Phaahla says Gauteng officially exited the fourth wave of Covid-19 infections this week.
Other provinces, including KwaZulu-Natal, have reached their peak and cases are steadily declining.
”Of note is the fact that the decline in new infections is not as steep as was there an incline. So this virus rises steeply, but when it goes down, it goes down slowly. But as least it’s going down, and that is encouraging.”
Phaahla was speaking at a virtual press briefing on Friday morning, on government's efforts in the fight against Covid-19.
He said the national recovery rate has been encouraging at 94%.
“Cases as of yesterday 106 883 which is a 22.7% reduction in active cases, compared to 24 hours earlier.
“The positivity rate of tests has gone down from the highest in the middle of December of 25 to 30%, also in the last week of December. Currently, as we reporting, as of yesterday, it has gone down to 14%.”
