National police probes Durban cop murders

National Police says they are probing if the murder of a Phoenix and a Pinetown officer are linked.

This after the two policemen were gunned down in separate events in less than a week. Warrant Officer Theena Pillay was shot and killed outside his Phoenix home on Sunday in what looked like a targeted hit.

The second officer, a 25-year-old constable, was found with bullet wounds inside a state owned mini-bus taxi on Tuesday.
SAPS spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says its difficult to link the cases at this stage. "These incidents happened in two separate areas, both these officers that were killed were involved in two separate line of work," he says.
Naidoo adds, "So there is no real evidence suggesting any link between these two incidents, we have established the motive of the killing of the warrant officer that was killed this week but we don't know the motive of the constable as yet."
