National police hone in on hotspots after 11 taxi drivers shot dead in KZN

National Police Commissioner, Khehla Sitole says investigators have been working around the clock to find those responsible for Saturday night's gruesome attack in northern KwaZulu-Natal, where 11 taxi drivers were shot dead.

"We have assembled a multi-disciplinary investigation team where it's a combination of national as well as provincial resources. We have also deployed a maximum contingency of intelligence," Sitole said. 

Sitole says they have activated a three-day plan to catch the suspects.

Four other members of Gauteng's Ivory Park Taxi Association were wounded when unknown gunmen opened fire on a minibus that had been transporting 17 passengers between Colenso and Weenen on the R74.

They had just attended the funeral of one their members and were on their way home. Two people escaped without injury.  

Sitole says they have deployed police to areas classified as taxi violence hotspots.
