Naptosa welcomes return of old feeding scheme model
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The National Professional Teachers' Organisation of South Africa (Naptosa) says schools should manage their own nutrition programmes.
This follows the collapse of KZN's disastrous R2 billion school feeding scheme.
Due to the collapse of the programme over 5 000 schools were left without food - for many children this meant losing out on probably their only meal of the day.
This week, the Department of Education in KZN said it's going back to the old model.

Naptosa's Therona Moodley says this decision has been welcomed.
"For now, our priority as a union is having our learners fed in the schools. So the old model work, no model is flawless. However, it worked better than the model that was starting in the second term.
"So we look forward to this implementation of the old model as soon as possible because right now two weeks into the school term there are still schools that have not received their resources for the school nutrition programme."
