Naptosa calls on schools to accept different cultures
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
The National Professional Teachers' Organisation of South Africa has called on principals and governing bodies to be mindful of different cultural demands within schools.

This is after a 15-year-old pupil from Nombika High School in Ndwedwe died after being suspended for putting on her traditional attire after receiving an ancestral calling.
She allegedly took her own life.
Naptosa's Thirona Moodley says diversity should be embraced.

"At this point, if learners are their age willing to embrace their cultural demands, then as a Department of Education, there's a responsibility to sit down with all stakeholders and to determine a way forward in how this can be incorporated into school policies.
"We are not placing unreasonable demands on school governing bodies. We are saying within reasonable boundaries, there must be some acceptance of cultural demands in terms of uniforms."
