Indwedwe pupil commits suicide amid row over traditional rituals

KZN Education
officials have visited the family of an Indwedwe pupil who took her own
life.
The Nombika High school pupil recently had a problem with her school regarding traditional rituals which she had to observe due to her ancestral calling.
It was previously reported that the child was denied access to the school due to the traditional cloth she had to wear over her uniform.
Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi rubbished the claims, saying the department intervened and the pupil was allowed to continue learning.

"We attended to the matter and discovered, contrary to what the media has reported. We ensured that the child was back at school and wrote all the May/June papers and then concluded last Wednesday.
"The child's report would be amongst the reports which would have been issued if she was still around."
