N3 shootout: Suspects still in hospital
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A court date is yet to be set down for the two surviving suspects who were part of the shootout with police that brought the busy N3 highway to a standstill yesterday.
It is said police had been pursuing a Toyota Quantum minibus with three armed men inside.
They started shooting at police who then returned fire and called for assistance from the K-9 unit.
This resulted in one of the men - a 23 year-old - being shot dead while two survived with injuries.
Also a police dog who had pursued one of the suspects was killed when it was hit by a truck.

The police's Colonel Thembeka Mbhele says once the suspects have left hospital, where they are being treated, they will then be facing a court date.
"During initial investigations, the police found the remains of two slaughtered cattle in the Quantum," she says, "The suspects will be charged with attempted murder and theft".
