N3 protest at PMB due to housing issues

Members of the public order police unit have been called to the scene of a protest in Pietermaritzburg.

The protest put the brakes on traffic on both sides of the N3 on Thursday morning.
Ezra Anthony, who lives nearby, says he was leaving in the morning and managed to talk to some of the demonstrators.
He was told they are unhappy about housing issues.
"More of why they were protesting is because the flats were built with the intention of getting all those people in the Jika Joe settlement to rent those flats.
"A lot of the people weren't interested with renting or actually paying much because it was mostly Jika Joe settlements."
The Road Traffic Inspectorate says it's still trying to remove the debris lying on the freeway.
The N3 at Chota Motala is still closed off to traffic.
