Early morning chaos as protestors hit N3

Both sides of the freeway were shut down, at Dr Chota Motala Road.

It's not yet clear what the demonstration is about, but the Road Traffic Inspectorate is urging motorists to please make use of other routes to get to work and school.

The RTI's Zinhle Mali says protesters began demonstrating at around five this morning near Church Street.

"We are diverting traffic that is proceeding towards Johannesburg there by New England Road or Market Road through CBD and back to the freeway. Durban bound.

“We are diverting at the freeway through CBD again through Alan Paton Road and will join the road by New England or Market Road.”
