It has been a bad start to the weekend for some KwaZulu-Natal motorists who are having to endure two separate road closures on the N3 this morning.

The N3 freeway heading towards Durban is closed to traffic at Cato Ridge. This after a truck overturned beneath a bridge in the early hours of this morning.

KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services say one person was seriously hurt.

Traffic heading towards the coast is being diverted past the scene on R103.

Meanwhile, the N3 Toll Concession says both the north and southbound carriageways will be closed to traffic at Midmar dam.

The concession released a statement earlier this morning saying the freeway will be closed between Howick and Tweedie to allow Eskom to replace stolen overhead power conductors.

"It is urgently required to close the N3 Toll Route to all traffic near Midmar Dam (between the Howick/Midmar and Howick North/Tweedie Interchange) this morning to allow Eskom to replace stolen overhead power conductors, read the statement.

"This area has been without power since the theft. As all north- and southbound lanes will be closed, traffic congestion and delays can be expected between 08:00 and 10:00 today," it continued.
