N2 ‘could remain closed until lunchtime’ following early morning crash
Updated | By Natarah Nadesan
Metro police say salvage operations on the N2, north of Durban, could take up to six hours meaning that the stretch of the freeway near Queen Nandi Drive could still be closed at around lunchtime.
It's
after a fuel tanker, motorbike and bakkie collided on the northbound side early
this morning.
Police spokesperson Parboo Sewpersad says the tanker overturned and is lying across the road.
He explains why this recovery operation is a delicate one.
"A fuel tanker carrying a few thousand litres of paraffin has overturned. Motorists are warned to divert before the Avoca turnoff and before the M19 turn off. The Salvage operation is continuing and should take up to six hours.”
With recovery efforts extending into this morning's rush hour, motorists have been asked to please be patient if already stuck in traffic or delay their trip.
