There are calls for the harshest punishment for the killers of a six-year-old south coast boy.

The child was reported missing on Sunday.
He had been out playing with friends and did not return to his home in Mahlongwa near Umkomaas.
Police say a group of boys stumbled upon his mutilated body the following day.

"It's a very painful thing that we are talking about this incident and we have a lot of incidents similar to this in the province of KwaZulu-Natal where children are being murdered," says KZN Social Development Department spokesperson Mhlaba Memela.
"Almost every week, we have cases that are reported of abuse of children, but we hope that working together with our communities and the law enforcement agencies, we will finally find a solution."
He is urging parents and caregivers to make sure young children are supervised.
