MUT seeks interdict over students' allowance protest
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) says it's applied for a court interdict - to put a stop to protest action that's disrupted academic activity at the Umlazi institution.

A group of students locked the varsity gates and prevented staff from entering the campus on Friday.
MUT says they wanted their full Learning Materials Allowance to be paid to them.
The university says 50% of the LMA is being released to students.

The other half was meant to partially fund laptops procured by National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
This would depend though on whether students requested one or not.
Management says despite a decision to release the full allowance after meetings with the SRC, some students took to the streets.
