Murky waters force temporary closure of Durban beaches
Updated | By Andrew Robertson
The heavy rains we've been experiencing since the weekend have resulted in the closure of eThekwini's northern and southern beaches.
The City's Msawakhe Mayisela says the downpours have caused murky seawaters and due to safety concerns they have decided to temporaly shut those beaches.
"Swimming is as a result prohibited at the aforementioned beaches as the risk of shark attack might increase. Beachgoers are therefore urged to heed this warning unwaveringly.
"Law enforcement is doing regular patrols to enforce that this warning is not disregarded. The Municipality will notify residents when these are safe to bathe.

"eThekwini would like to caution the public that the country is still under level 1 lockdown and people are advised to permanently adhere to lockdown regulations."
He says the region's central beaches will remain open.
Residents are permitted to jogging on the sands, walks and exercising.
