Murder probe after DUT student killed during protest

KwaZulu-Natal police have opened a case of murder after a 20-year-old DUT student was shot duringprotest action at the institution's Steve Biko Campus.
The police's Thembeka Mbele says according to reports from the scene, some demonstrators stoned a building and threw bricks at security personnel yesterday - leaving an admin assistant and a security officer hurt.
That's when guards moved in on the students, allegedly with live ammunition.
University management has suspended classes until further notice.

Earlier this week, students demonstrated at the UKZN Westville, Howard College and Edgewood campuses over funding delays from NSFAS and accommodation issues.
