Murder accused Werner de Jager to remain behind bars

An Amanzimtoti man accused of killing his wife has been denied bail.
Werner de Jager is charged with the premeditated murder of Pastor Liezel de Jager, as well as two counts of fraud.
Magistrate Zama Nyuswa read the bail judgment on Thursday afternoon, with the court erupting in a burst of jubilation upon hearing the ruling.
The court erupted in jubilation on hearing the decision.

It was packed with Toti activists from NGOs Elder Voice and Operation Bobbi Bear.
The bail decision was hit by delays that included load shedding and deliberations on whether the media could broadcast the proceedings.
The magistrate concluded the proceedings could be video recorded.
Meanwhile, De Jager's attorney has withdrawn from the case.
De Jager has opted for legal aid.
The case has been adjourned until mid-March.
