Multi-model rail terminal launches at Durban port

KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube says there's been progress in clearing the truck backlog at the Durban port.
She joined President Cyril Ramaphosa at the launch of a new multi-model rail terminal in the city on Thursday.
The Newlyn PX Terminal in Bayhead, located next to the port, has promised to tackle truck congestion in the area.
Dube-Ncube says over 45 trucks have already arrived at the container terminal.
"Transnet reported that a further 25 of these are also expected in the middle of this month, and the last ten will arrive at the end of next month."

A local activist has welcomed the initiative.
The development is also expected to fast-track the government's plans to migrate cargo movement - from road to rail.
Desmond D'sa says they've petitioned for a dry port to clear blocked roads.
He's with the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance.
"We have been providing the information to government and to all levels including meeting with Transnet, eThekwini Municipality, ETA transportation boards."
