The group was set up in February after the president met with the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other concerned roleplayers.

It comprises ministers, business and the city.
"All the problems and challenges that we have in this part of the country are now being addressed in a pointed way through collaboration, through everyone working together."
Speaking at the opening of the Newlyn Park Bayhead Rail Terminal in Durban, Ramaphosa said the terminal would revitalise the city and reposition the Port of Durban as the port of choice for the international community.
"In order for this rail terminal project to deliver full benefits to South Africa for the purpose that it was designed for. It has to train, and slots have to be made available to clients. This will lead to a significant increase in revenue for Transnet and Natcor corridor through the migration of cargo from road to rail."
