Multi-million-rand upgrade to Newcastle airport
The Newcastle Municipal Airport is undergoing a multimillion-rand upgrade to become an open-air facility for all aircraft.
Officials hope the project will attract more investment. The R5 million refurbishment will include resealing the runway and upgrading lights.
The municipality's Mthandeni Mnyandu says the Newcastle economy and tourism sector need a boost.

"We are planning to complete this project by the end of this year. Business people benefit from this airport as people travel from Durban to Newcastle and Johannesburg."
