Msunduzi ratepayers want city council dissolved
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Ratepayers in Msunduzi want the city's council to be dissolved over claims of unethical behaviour.
They have given Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Thembi Nkadimeng and KZN MEC Bongi Sithole-Moloi seven days to respond to their grievances.
The municipality has been under administration since 2019.
Anthony Waldhausen, who is with the Msunduzi Association of Residents Ratepayers and Civics, says to date nothing has changed.
He's linked service delivery challenges to corruption and political interference.

"We are seeing poor service delivery throughout the city. You find that the municipality is not collecting revenue equitably amongst all residents. Only 30 per cent of residents, businesses and government departments are paying towards our city, and the 70 per cent who can pay are not paying."
Waldhausen says there are also questions about the recent decision to suspend City Manager Lulamile Mapholoba.
"There is a need for urgent intervention, just coming out of the suspension of the municipal manager and the process that was irregular and unlawful at the council meeting. This is why we asked the minister to intervene."
