Msunduzi mayor defends move to suspend city manager
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Msunduzi Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla has defended his decision to suspend City Manager Lulamile Mapholoba.
In explaining the move, Thebolla said it is meant to allow for thorough investigations into misconduct allegations.
"Suspending someone does not mean that he is guilty but it does give an opportunity to investigate such allegations and it has come to the attention of the mayor."
Mapholoba feels his suspension was politically motivated because of his stance on corruption.
He also complied with an order to explain why he shouldn't be suspended.
However, Mayor Thebolla says he was simply doing his job.
"It is the responsibility of the mayor of any municipality, of there is anything that threatens the functionality of the municipality, if it is something that concerns any senior officials the council may decide either to suspend or not suspend."
