An Msunduzi municipal
employee who was arrested for allegedly killing a man has been remanded in
custody until his court appearance next week.
Mziwemali Ngubane appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.
He's accused of shooting a 22-year-old man on Friday.
Ngubane allegedly loaded the body into a municipal vehicle before dumping it in a river.
The mayor's former bodyguard then went to a police station to report that a hijacking had taken place.
But he confessed to opening a false case and told police where he'd dumped the gun victim's body.
The Msunduzi Municipality's issued a statement of condemnation.
"The City Manager has called for an immediate investigation into the matter and he would like to ensure that the community of Msunduzi that strong disciplinary actions will be implemented against the employee for misconduct and for putting the municipality into disrepute."

Spokesperson Ntobeko Mkhize says Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla has been taken aback by misleading reports that suggest the suspect is a trusted ally.
"Similarly, the mayor has taken offence and lies peddled in his name and the allegations which border on defamation of character. The municipality would like to place it on record that Mr Ngubane is an employee of the municipality, however, he's no longer a bodyguard of the mayor. His tenure as bodyguard ended months ago when he secured a permanent position in another department."
