Msunduzi mayor hits back after failed no-confidence motion

Msunduzi Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla has described a failed vote of no confidence against him as nothing more than opportunistic politics.

The city has been struggling with service delivery, mountains of debt, at-times unpaid salaries and crumbling infrastructure, which led to the opposition calling for a motion against the mayor.

However, during a council meeting on Wednesday the DA-led motion failed with 45 councillors voting against it, 14 voting for it and 10 abstaining.

Thebolla maintains the motion of no confidence failed because it is evident that progress is being made in turning uMsunduzi around.

“If you drive into the city now, Msunduzi has got lights now, something that has not been there for some time. Driving into Msunduzi now it means I guarantee you whether, at night or day, it is very clean and  all the verges are cut."
