This is according to the KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance Department.

The Msundizi River burst its banks because of the downpours.

KZN Cogta MEC Sihle Zikalala says some 180 residents have been affected by the flooding.

Zikalala joined a disaster management task team on Thursday to assess the damage.

"The situation is terrible, very bad. But we are grateful that nobody died and while there is huge damage, we believe that we will be able to assist where we can."

He says they are working with Msunduzi Municipality to provide temporary shelter, food and clothes.

Zikalala says 15 residents have already been placed in a mosque.

In eThekwini, Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda is hoping the city will have moved all April flood victims out of shelters by next month.

The municipality says it's bought property from Tongaat Hulett to house more than 160 families in Tongaat.

He says they are working on fixing some of the infrastructure on the farm, including for water supply.

"They are happy that we have already shutdown the community hall in Tongaat where people have been located.

"Today I was receiving families from Canelands who will be joining this community to be where we are located at the centres. Out of 120, 62 of them have been closed; therefore the remaining 58 will then be attended to."
