Mozambican ‘kidnapping kingpin’ claims innocence

The 50-year-old Esmael Malude Ramos Nangy was arrested at an upmarket estate in
Centurion over the weekend.
Nangy is wanted for kidnapping cases where ransom demands were made in Mozambique.
During his arrest on Saturday police seized a 9mm licensed firearm, fourteen 9mm cartridges, five cell phones, multiple bank cards for South African banks as well as multiple SA and Mozambican sim cards from his home.
Nangy made a brief appearance before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

His lawyer Calvin Maile told the media Nangy does not know where the allegations stem from.
"He is a well-respected businessman in both South Africa and Mozambique , so during the period allegations of offences were committed he was in South Africa and evidence will show that when the time comes but at this stage, we cannot comment on the merits of the matter until such is fully canvassed in court."
The case has been postponed to January 16 for the court to attain instructions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
