Mozambican authorities informed of Durban Harbour fire - SAMSA

Mozambican authorities have been briefed on the fatal fire at the Durban Harbour that left five Mozambican nationals, dead this week.

This according to a statement issued by the South African Maritime Safety Authority, which has also confirmed the launch of an investigation into the incident.
A total of six people died in the blaze, which broke out on a fishing vessel that was undergoing repairs at the dry dock on Thursday afternoon.
The sixth victim was a Portuguese man.

SAMSA says the vessel, known as 'TROPICAL 1,' was Mozambique registered and that it was docked at the Durban Harbour for repair work, when it caught on fire.
The cause of the fire has not been established yet.
The bodies of the deceased have been retrieved and transported to a mortuary in Durban.
"Actual inspection of the vessel with a view to determining the cause of the fire will be undertaken as soon as conditions allow," SAMSA says, "Mozambican authorities have been verbally briefed via telephone, with a full report due to follow soon".
