Motorists to fork out more for fuel due to April tax hike
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
Motorists can expect to be taxed more for the fuel they use in about half-a-month's time.
That's when increased fuel levies kick-in for both petrol and diesel - taking the price up by around 50 cents a litre.
The AA's Layton Beard says any increase is likely to affect public transport costs and the price of moving goods.
"At this stage, looking at a price of around R13,42 - most motorists will pay around R13,94 for a litre of petrol. It must be remembered that will include R5,30 for the general fuel levy and road accident fund levy. All in all, about 38 - 40% of every litre of petrol will be spent on taxes. That is quite a hefty amount," Beard said.

During his budget speech this year, now former Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba said motorists can expect a 22-cents per litre increase in the general fuel levy and 30-cents a litre hike in the Road Accident Fund levy.
