Motive unclear in fatal Wartburg taxi shooting: Police

KwaZulu-Natal police say they are investigating charges of murder and attempted murder after suspects opened fire on a taxi transporting school teachers in Wartburg, near Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday morning.

The 35-year-old driver of the vehicle was killed, and three teachers were left critically injured in the shooting. Seven other teachers were unharmed.

It's understood that the teachers were travelling to the Masijabule High School when the vehicle they were in was shot at.
Police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says: "They were shot by unknown suspects, and three teachers aged between 40 and 53 sustained gunshot wounds and the driver was declared dead at the scene. He was hurt in the upper body. Motive unknown art the moment and is under investigation."
