Mother, newborn baby killed in crash near Westville

A car crashed into a woman and her baby, killing them both on the M13 in the vicinity of Westville, west of Durban on Friday.

The two bodies were found lying on the eastbound side of the route near Rodger Sishi, the old Blair Atholl Road.

"The mother believed to be in her early 40s had succumbed to her injuries," says First Responders KZN spokesperson, Derrick Banks.
"The baby, believed to be 21 days old, was found a few metres behind her. She had sustained fatal injuries as well and was declared deceased on the scene.
"The driver of the light motor vehicle has been examined by paramedics and has sustained no injuries."
Police and other authorities were on the scene to investigate.
