The Comrades Marathon Association says the state of the art facility lived up to its status on Sunday.

Chairperson, Cheryl Winn says about 19 000 athletes started the race - 16 000 of them crossed the finish line within the 12-hour cut-off time.

"We experienced absolutely fantastic co-operation from the Moses Mabhida Stadium management. For instance, we didn't even have to construct a medical tent - our entire medical tent facility was housed in underground parking. It's just a more modern facility, it offers more opportunities for us. That's something we are able to pass on to our runners. It was a fantastic day and everyone enjoyed it," Winn said.
