More visible policing in Chatsworth residential areas: Cele
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
Police Minister Bheki Cele says he is increasing visible policing in Chatsworth, with stop-and-searches and foot patrols on the cards.
Cele was in the south Durban suburb today to meet with the community following the recent wave of crime in the area.
He was joined by National Police Commissioner, General Khehla Sithole and newly-appointed Hawks head, Godfrey Lebeya.
Cele says Chatsworth police station will get 11 new vehicles.
He says they are also looking at increasing the staff complement, among other interventions.

"We did have this before, we are now trying to bring it back. On the exit and entrances of your residential areas, we want to put the permanent static blue lighted cars. So that if somebody comes in this community and tries to run away - it is easy to lock him down," Cele said.
The Chatsworth community has been hit hard by the tragedy of nine-year-old Sadia Sukhraj's death - who died during a botched hijacking two weeks ago.
