More police needed in political attack hotspots: KZN ANC
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The ANC in KZN says higher police visibility is desperately needed in Umzinkhulu and Richmond in particular - following a spate of shooting incidents in recent months - believed to be politically-motivated.
The call comes as former ANC Youth League secretary general Sindiso Magaqa is fighting for his life in hospital after he and two councillors were shot at Ibisi Village in Umzimkhulu last night.
Police say two gunmen opened fire on their vehicle with a pistol and a high calibre firearm.
The party's Mdumiseni Ntuli says the attacks need to be stopped.
"It is now becoming unsafe to go home or hang around local shops. Our view is that there is a need for a significant increase of police visibility including, where necessary, bringing police officers who are not from the areas ravaged by the current killings of comrades," he said.
