More eThekwini residents in dark due to DSW strike

More and more communities in eThekwini are bearing the brunt of the impact of the DSW workers' strike.

This time, residents living on Palmiet Road in Clare Estate said they had been without electricity for five days.
"Press releases by eThekwini paint a very positive picture that it is work as usual, but the fact is, on the ground, municipal employees are being harassed, physically attacked and threatened," says Ward 23 councillor Alicia Kissoon.

"The fact that three informal settlements and two roads have been without electricity for five days should tell us the fear of municipal workers going to work, and currently, there is no information on the progress of discussions with unions."
eThekwini says technicians have been responding to a list of 86 areas across the city, where outages have been reported.
Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda on Wednesday gave striking employees an ultimatum, saying those who fail to report to work will face dismissal.
