Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
An elderly man has suffered fatal burns in a house fire in Westville.
The fire broke out at the Sepentine Drive property this afternoon.
Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says firefighters pulled the 75-year-old man's body from the burning home.
"On arrival, paramedics from the Durban Fire Department were already in attendance. Unfortunately, a male believed to be in his seventies has been killed in the fire. There have been no other injuries reported on the scene.
"The scene is very active and the fire department, and SAPS are in attendance and will be investigating the cause of the fire," Jamieson said.
This comes as eight people were killed in an informal settlement fire in Khayelitsha, in Cape Town, during the early hours of the morning.
Five of the victims were children.
