Mondlo community set to receive R14 million bridges
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
KwaZulu-Natal Transport officials say the construction of bridges in Mondlo will begin in June.

The community in the Zululand town say they risk their lives every time they cross the local Mvuzini River during heavy rains.
They say the river is their only access point to clinics, schools and other essential services.
Last weekend, a taxi driver drowned after his minibus was swept away in the river.

Last year, two elderly women also died while trying to cross it to get to the area.
Transport MEC, Bheki Ntuli says R14 million has been put aside for the construction of box culverts at Mvuzini and Machana.
"We had the department commit to two bridges in those communities. Now that bridge assessment have been done, the tender is going to be issued on the 7th of February."
"For me to go on Thursday to a bridge where 2 000 people are living, means there is a high level of unemployment within those communities. So I want those bridges when constructed to firstly to employ people from the area."
