Police in Plessislaer are investigating arson and murder after a woman and her child died following a house fire in Pietermaritzburg.
Emergency services were called to their home in KwaPata on Saturday night.
"It is reported that a two-year-old baby was burnt to death when a house was set alight, allegedly by one of his parents during an argument. The mother of the child sustained burn wounds and was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries,” says SAPS' Robert Netshiunda.
Police say the child's father suffered burn wounds and is recovering in hospital.
No arrests have been made.
